MCA Collaborations
The
Honors College, in collaboration with the
Maine Center for the Arts, works to
provide cultural as well as educational opportunities for our students. Overture to the Arts. For our first-year students and faculty, we offer an event in the fall. This fall, for instance, our students enjoyed a reception in the Bodwell Lounge at the MCA followed by a performance of Othello by the Aquila Theater of London. This collaboration between the Maine Center for the Arts and The Honors College is our welcome to our first-year Honors students and their preceptors to the beginning of their journey.
I
believe it's essential for students studying written texts in the classroom to
experience first hand how a text becomes a live performance. This year's
[2004's]
presentation of Shakespeare's Othello is an especially good example... students watched a nationally renowned company of professional
actors bring to life the work of the Western world's best known dramatic writer,
many for the very first time.

Finale. For
our fourth-year students and their thesis advisors, we hold a spring reception
providing an opportunity for advisors and their advisees to interact outside of
the academic environment and to enjoy a quality performance at the MCA. This
collaboration between the Maine Center for the Arts and The
Honors College
celebrates the accomplishments of our graduating seniors and their thesis
advisors.
I believe that giving students the opportunity to experience these productions is very important in helping students to expand their horizons and appreciate a wider range of artistic expression
