Honors Research and Travel Grants

The Honors Research and Travel Fund, established by Betsy Pullen Leitch ’55 and William Leitch in 2001, provides annual support for research (within all Colleges of the University of Maine and includes field work, surveys, laboratory experiments, library research, and analysis) and travel to present at conferences and symposiums undertaken by students enrolled in The Honors College at The University of Maine.

ACADEMIC YEAR 2007-2008 INFORMATION

Guidelines:

  • The maximum amount for a grant request is $500.
  • Students currently enrolled in either Honors 498 or Honors 499 are eligible.
  • Students are eligible to receive more than one grant as long as the total is no more than $500.
  • Grants must be used for research or travel related to work in Honors.
  • The grant committee may consider special exceptions to the above guidelines on a case-by-case basis.
  • The grant committee consists of the three at-large faculty members of the Honors Council and is chaired by the Coordinator of Student Academic Services and Budget.

Process:

  • To be considered for funding, application packages must include
    • completed application form with budget and appropriate signatures,
    • a narrative, fewer than 500 words, describing the proposal,
    • and a letter of faculty support.
  • Completed application packages must be received at the Honors Center no later than 4:00p.m. on the following days:
    • Fall: 5 October 2007 or
    • Spring: 8 February 2008.
  • Applications will not be accepted later than these deadlines, though the grant committee may accept requests to consider late Fall applications in the Spring.

Notification:

  • The grant committee will notify applicants as to the decision on their proposals no later than two weeks after the submission deadline.
  • The grant committee reserves the right to fund proposals at amounts less than the total requested.
